Berlin School District, Police Department, Respond To Uvalde School Massacre
A gunman opened fire in a classroom at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, last week, killing 19 students and two teachers. The shooting was the deadliest at a school in nearly a decade.
The Berlin Borough school district and the Berlin Township Police Department are responding to ensure the safety of its children and residents.
The school district recently gave its condolences to the Uvalde Elementary School and the Uvalde community.
"The health and safety of the students and staff in the Berlin Borough School District will continue to be a top priority," said District Superintendent Joseph Campisi Ph.D., in a May 26 prepared statement. We will continue with our School Resource Officers and our very close relationship and collaboration with the Berlin Borough Police Department."
The Berlin Police Department said that, in response to the events, there will be an increase in police presence at Berlin Twp. schools for the remainder of the school year.
"The Berlin Twp. Police Department is committed wholeheartedly to ensure the safety of the children," the Berlin Township Police Department said in a prepared statement. That commitment includes training, equipment, security assessment, self-evaluation, and communication with both the school administration and also parents. We implore all parents and residents, should there ever be any concerns regarding the safety of our students, please notify the Berlin Twp. Police Department immediately."
"We are thankful to the Berlin Borough Police Department for their partnership and dedication to the students and staff of the Berlin Community School," Campisi said.
