Berlin Native To Release Indie-Pop, Post-Rock Album Through Hidden Shoal Records

On April 8, Berlin, New Jersey native Jake McFee and his band "Rewilding" will release an album through Hidden Shoal Records.

The first single, "Astro-Geo Alignment," and a pre-release promo for their latest project, "Abandoned Kiva," will be released in digital and CD formats.

McFee who wrote the album after taking a trip to Chaco Canyon, New Mexico recorded the album in Maui, Hawaii over the course of a year.

"I felt some connection with my own life and the people that lived there because they were also migratory and faced social and climate changes," he said.

Following the band's instrumental album "Rain Patch," released in 2020, "Abandoned Kiva" takes the band into uncharted territory. The album introduces vocals by collaborator Monica Alexandra while continuing to explore the blurred lines between lo-fi indie-pop, post-rock, and film soundtracks, in keeping with the album's underlying subject of seeking fresh connections in a society characterized by separation.

"I was lucky to meet Monica Alexandra here and we worked together crafting the direction of it all. It's been a great partnership and allowed me someone to bounce ideas off of, " he said.

McFee, who graduated from Overbrook High School in 1995, spent his first 22 years of life on North Rose Lane. When he moved to Maui in December of 2020, he stated that he wanted to attempt something fresh because he hadn't recorded music with words in a long time.

"The music is a bit off kilter and strange, because I had been inspired a lot by improvisation and the works of Alice Coltrane, said McFee. There are also traces of Dorothy Moskovitz and the band The United States of America and the work of Ishmael Butler of Shabazz Palaces."

The $10.50 digital pre-order contains one track (streaming via the free Bandcamp app). Purchasers of the pre-order will receive the first single in MP3 and/or FLAC format, as well as the complete album when it is released.
